Description: Looking down to Manukau Harbour, with a sailing ship at a breakwater on a point of land to the left, and small craft at a jetty on the right. A few houses strung along shore with sections laid out in the foreground and a small church to the left. Mangere mountain is in the middle distance with Puketutu Island to the right. The background volcanoes are Ihumatao, near the modern airport. Two women, one with a parasol, and a man are gazing at the view from a low hill in the foreground Exhibited in 'Picturing Paradise; the colonial watercolours of William Fox', Exhibition at National Library Gallery 25 February - 18 June 2000; Hocken Library, Dunedin, 11 September - 15 October 2000. Description: Shows two women tending flowers, with a Maori gardener behind them. They have a watering can beside them and the gardener has a wheelbarrow and a rake. There are tall trees in the background. The scene is in the garden of the artist at his pastoral run, Westoe. Property shown is Fox's first home on the river flat at Westoe. He built his second home here on a higher river terrace in 1874 Exhibited in 'About women, about time' Exhibition at the National Library Gallery, 2 July - 23 October 1993.
