Description: Two letters from Frederick Thatcher written in 1873 when he was secretary to G A Selwyn, then Bishop of Lichfield, to an unnamed friend, who is considering emigration to New Zealand. Discusses New Zealand's prospects, possibility of further wars there, and best places for settlement, particularly Bay of Plenty and South Taranaki.
