Reference: A-234-016
Description: Shows a beach or the banks of a stream, looking inland to windswept scrub and a small stream. In the right foreground is a skull and other bones. The scene is almost identical to a work in the Nelson Provincial Museum, entitled" "A Moriori burial place, Wharekauri, Chatham Islands, 25-1-1889". It is likely that the artist stayed at the Wharekauri homestead at the north of the island. She visited several times, including both 1886 and 1889 (See Julie King's "Flowers into landscape", (Christchurch, 1997), pages 55-58). Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - [Signed and dated]; Verso - bottom right - [Title] Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Watercolour 255 x 355 mm.
