Description: Shows a view looking down on a group of Maori whare on the peninsula at Ohinemutu, with Lake Rotorua and Mokoia Island in the background. Steam rises from the ground at two points Artist attributed by inscription inside front cover. Artist assumed to be Dr Henry Thomas Spratt, rather than his son Henry Howell Spratt. See Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Volume 1, Wellington, page 884. The view pre-dates the building of the first St Faith's Church at Ohinemutu, showing simply the Maori settlement, with no church.
