Description: Political cartoons from the end of the ministry of Peter Fraser, the lead up to the 1949 election (in which he was defeated by Sidney Holland), and the first year of Holland's ministry. These cartoons mainly address Holland's link to the British conservatives (which McNamara had a very negative view of), and cuts he made to wages, pensions and allowances when he came into power. Description: Drawings and caricatures of sporting and political figures who flourished in the 1940s and 1950s. Includes speedway stars Alex Pratt, Jack Hunt, McMillan, and another unnamed whose image is superimposed over a speedway crowd. Golfer J.P.Hornbrook, a wrestler "Smithy", and an unnamed cyclist are depicted. The political personalities are Cumming who ran for mayor of Petone and accountant John Arcus.
