Description: Shows a panoramic view of the Waitemata Harbour, with Mount Victoria, North Head and Rangitoto in the distance. The Auckland Domain is shown in the foreground with a group of Maori at the left, and a small tree enclosed by protective fencing in the centre. At the right is a felled tree trunk. St Paul's Cathedral is seen surrounded by groups of houses, just to the right of centre, and at the left, the view extends to the inner harbour, and shows St Patrick's? Catholic church (before the spire was built in 18--). There are a number of sailing ships in the harbour. Description: Shows Government House from the front with a driveway and some garden. 1862 seems more likely date, since the H.M.S. "Harrier" was recalled home in 1864. Closest dates to December 1862, on other works, are: 2 April 1862, and 19 March 1863. Both of these are on New Zealand works. Description: Shows group of circular tents with soldiers beside most of them. More permanent buildings include the Commisariat store house, and the Government Pier building. Drury was an advanced base for military operations from 1863-64. Supplies and munitions were shipped by cutters from Onehunga across the Manukau Harbour up the Drury Inlet. The 17th of July 1863 was the day of two actions of the Waikato War, one with General Cameron at Koheroa Ranges, the second the ambush at Martin's Farm, near Drury.
