Description: Miners and shareholders of the Hauraki Gold Mining Company in Coromandel in 1896, gathered together around a stack of facsimile gold bars to celebrate the company's success over the previous two years. The sign reads "Hauraki Gold Mining Company Limited. Capital £40,000. Henry Wilson (Chairman). Directors: F G Lane, F Breuer, S Goldsmid, Cecil Hartridge. General Manager: Francis Hodge M N Eng Inst M M E Mining & Consulting Engineer. Facsimile of gold bullion bars sold to the Bank of New Zealand from January 1895 to 12th December 1896. Representing 62858 ounces of gold or 1 ton 18 cwts 2 qrs 23 lbs. Amount realized £193,677 17 2" Taken by an unidentified photographer. This photograph is published in the book `Historic Gold Trails of the Coromandel', by Tony Nolan, 1977, page 50 This is copy of a photograph held at the School of Mines Museum in Coromandel Another copy of this photograph is at 1/2-092162 This buildings was still standing in 1977, without its top verandah, as a residence near the Kapanga Street motor camp in Coromandel.
