Description: Lady Constance Knox on her horse `Bruno', and a group portrait of the family and staff of Lord and Lady Ranfurly, both taken by Herman John Schmidt between 1897 and 1903 at Government House in Auckland. The upper photograph (PA1-f-195-83-1) shows Lady Constance Knox on her horse `Bruno'. The lower photograph (PA1-f-195-83-2) shows the family and staff of Lord and Lady Ranfurly. From left (standing): Captain Dudley Alexander, Miss Costello, Lady Constance Knox, Charles Hill-Trevor, Captain Hugh Boscawen. From left (sitting): The Countess of Ranfurly, Lady Eileen Knox, Lord Ranfurly. The original negative from which the lower print was made, is at 1/1-001653-G. At the time this photograph was taken, the studio was still operating as the Charles Hemus studio, although Herman Schmidt was the active photographer.
