Description: Collection comprises: Photograph of World War I troops and pyramids, photographed by G M Georgoulas, and mounted photograph of Franz Josef Glacier, photographed by H C Peart The Georgoulas image is a group portrait of three men in military uniform, in Egypt, mounted on camels. An Arab man stands in front of them. The Pyramid of Khafre and the Great Sphinx of Gisa are behind them. Other people can be seen in the background on foot and on camels. An inscription reads: 'G M Georgoulas, pyramids, 25.12.15, N.393'. The image has a wooden mat over it The Peart image is a view looking down Franz Josef Glacier, with clouds in the foreground. The inscription reads: 'Franz Josef Glacier, from Almer Bivouac, Westland, NZ, protected 25.12.21, H C Peart' Source of title - Title supplied by Library Quantity: 2 b&w original photographic print(s). Processing information: This collection was retrospectively described in 2015. Diana Anstiss and Lilian Garland donated the items but their roles in the creation of this collection are unclear.

Description: Photographic postcards of Wellington and Rotorua taken circa 1940s. Three taken by Royal Studios and two by Heaton Clairemont Peart. Photographers of other images unidentified. Wellington City views are taken from Mount Victoria and Tinakori Hill. Prominent landmarks seen in these photographs include the National War Memorial and Carillon, Wellington High School, Basin Reserve cricket ground, Wellington East Girls' College, Wellington College, Winter Show Buildings, Weir House, Wellington Whares, St Gerard's Church, Basin Reserve, Wellington Railway Station, and the road to the Hutt Valley. In Rotorua sites photographed include Whakarewarewa with pa (whare and carvings) and hot pools (including Maori women washing clothes), Government Gardens Bath House and entranceway, Ward Bath house, top of Eagle's Nest geyser at Wairakei, and the shore at Lake Rotorua. Physical Description: Silver gelatin photoprints mounted on brown card tied with blue ribbon Provenance: Donor bought them in England and passed them to the Nelson Provincial Museum, who, after consultation with the donor, passed them to the Library.

Description: Photographs taken by H C Peart, circa 1920-1921. Various views of glaciers, crevasses, and unidentified climbers; southern lakes, Milford Sound and waterfalls. Several show the Franz Josef Glacier from the Almer bivouac. Three views of Milford Sound show a steamship. Of these numbers 16 and 17 show a small steamship in Milford Sound, and number 27 shows a steamship and several men in two dinghies. Photographs numbered 24-26 show the old Rimu gold dredge and tailings. Identified places are listed above. Quantity: 38 b&w original photographic print(s). Description: Photographs of mountains and valleys in the Arthur's Pass National Park, including numbers of views of the Otira Tunnel under construction, with interior and exterior views. Various photographers have been identified, some with only their surname. They include H C Peart, A A Lee, [?] Manson, [?] Beck, T.C., John Pascoe, W D Frazer, [?] Barrett, and C Beken. From information about William Alexander Kennedy it appears that a large number of the photographs were taken by him, taking groups of former students on mountaineering trips. Many of the images show groups of young people, none of whom are identified, taken circa 1925-1926. (See article at http://www/nzine.co.nz/features/wak.html) Many of the images show winter views including icicles formed on waterfalls, frozen spray on twigs, and one with frozen spume near the Otira Tunnel. Image no. 25 shows an undentified woman standing at the foot of a semi-frozen waterfall, and image no. 64 shows an undentified woman wearing a woollen coat with fur collar and a felt hat, looking at icicles in Arthur's Pass. Image no. 43 shows "The Birches" in winter, near the summit of Arthur's pass on the Bealey side. Image no. 65 shows four women and a men with armfuls of mountain lilies in Arthur's pass. Images no. 70-71 show a small ferry [?] by the pier at Lake Brunner. Image no. 89 shows three men and a dog standing near a mountain hut, with a camera on a tripod.
