Description: One side of sheet shows five views of "The recent volcanic eruption in the lake country, New Zealand, from sketches taken on the spot by E W Payton". All views show steam columns forcefully rising from volcanoes and fissures: the commencement of the volcano on Tarawera, a general view of Tarawera Mountain including Wahanga and Ruawahia, the Black Crater (the southernmost crater), and a view of the scene where the Pink Terrace formerly stood.
