Blomfield, Charles, 1848-1926 :Hohaua Mill, Wairoa River. [between 1870 and 1900?]

Description: Shows a group of industrial buildings with a smoking chimney, on the bend of a river. Beside the mill, there is a wharf with a red-funnelled steamship moored beside it, and another boat pulling two barges makes its way across the stretch of river in the foreground. The view is framed with native bush, and there are hills in the distance. The location is thought to be the Wairoa River that flows into the Kaipara Harbour, and if so, the steamship is likely to belong to the Northern Steamship Company. Blomfield painted widely, but did paint in the Far North, and there were several mills in the area, including the Aoroa Mill.
