They are standing in front of the Moutoa Flag which measures 8 feet in length by 5 feet 6 inches and is made of heavy quality white silk with a Union Jack oversewn on the upper left corner. Photograph taken by William Henry Thomas Partington. "...a banner known as the Moutoa Flag, was worked by the ladies of the [Wanganui] district and presented to the loyal Maoris. It was the inspiration of Mrs Logan, wife of Lt. Col. Logan, officer commanding the Imperial Forces stationed in Wanganui, that some practical expression of their gratitude from the ladies of the district be made to the loyal Whanganui chiefs to honour their victory against the Hauhaus at Moutoa Island.
