Description: The author, an unnamed corporal in the 40th regiment, reports both naval and military action in South Auckland during the Waikato war. His letters, which begin when he is at Knox College in 1914, reflect his philosophy of life, belief in God, his feelings for his parents and move on to his descriptions of his experiences training in camp, sailing on the `Tofua', reaching Bulford Camp, going over to France and fighting in the Battle of the Somme.
