The garden has a flower bed with tall stems (possibly hollyhocks or foxgloves) beside the house, and a border along the left side of the lawn. There is a tree partially obscured by the house, and the entrance gate in the centre background. A large flowering tree is at the extreme left. Description: Panoramic view of the Waitomo Caves Hostel (centre left). Three-storeyed with an octagonal turret and attic rooms to the left and a walkway leading to a fire-escape ladder. There are decorative palings around the verandahs on the two lower storeys and there are flower beds at the base. Part of the building on the left appears to be of earlier construction, in a different style. There are several people on the verandah or seated on steps by the front entrance on the right. A large parking area has a monkey puzzle tree in a circular bed in the centre, and a stone fence behind. There is a car (number plate 77-633) parked near the edge of the parking space with the driver standing alongside. Photograph taken by Robert Percy Moore.
