Old Porirua Tavern building in transit to new home

Description: Old Porirua Tavern building being moved on a truck to its new site in Waitangirua, led by a police car. Photograph taken 25 October 1973 by an unidentified Evening Post staff photographer. Original caption reads: "Space was at a premium this morning during the moving of this section of the old tavern at Porirua on the road that leads to to a permanent place for it at Waitangirua about four miles away. This was the start of what turned out to be about a three-ghour delicate operation requiring careful judgement on the part of the transporter crew. The 40ft wide building encountered many hurdles before being laid to rest on its new foundations. Its course was marked with many hazards including a bridge so narrow that the load had to be lifted to clear the concrete paprapets. In this turning manoeuvre the building canted precariously on its jumbo jet-like undercarriage. The building is to be converted into a marae at Waitangirua." (Evening Post, 25 October 1973) Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s) strip with 3 images. Physical Description: Cellulose triacetate negative, 35mm
