Description: A view from the top of the Rimutaka Hill, looking down over the road winding through dense bush towards the plains of the Wairarapa. A Maori family is leading a horse down the road. One tree to the left in the foreground is a rata in flower and there is a tree-fern on the right. The artist is incorrect in his statement about the Rimutaka Range being part of the Ruahine Range. It is part of the Tararua Range. The phrase 'anglice Waidrop' refers to the common nineteenth century English version of the Maori word Wairarapa.
