Kenny 1879-1952 who worked at the National bank with C.F.A. Broad (Manager) in Greymouth. The school boy is John Cecil Coote 1889-1937 (known as Jack) who was a friend of C.F.A.Broad's son, Charles V.Newton Broad. Photographer unidentified. Description: The cartoon shows (from left) Minister of Energy and Resources Gerry Brownlee, who is wearing a 'sexy coal' tshirt, Finance Minister Bill English who wears a 'Double Dipton' tshirt, and PM John Key who wears an 'ambitions' tshirt. They stare at three tattered flags that bears the words 'Mining in Parks', 'Kiwibank sale' and 'Urewera settlement'. John Key who also holds a document headed 'whaling' comments that maybe they should do some market research first. Refers to all four of these recent issues - mining in Schedule 4 areas of national parks, government asset sales, the Urewera settlement with Tuhoe and the conservation of whales, as having been extremely contentious. So much so that a statement has been made that Kiwibank is not being sold and the mining is being 'rethought'. Quantity: 1 digital cartoon(s).

John Bathgate

Description: Portrait of Hon. John Bathgate, taken by an unidentified photographer, circa 1860 to 1886. John Bathgate was born at Edinburgh (Scotland). Completed his legal studies at the University. When the Bank of Otago was established he accepted a post as manager, arriving Dunedin at the end of 1863. In 1867 he resigned from the Bank and was appointed Managing Director of the Otago Daily Times and Witness Co. He was for some months editor of The Times. In 1875 he assisted Thomas Bracken in founding the Saturday Advertiser, of which he was business manager. He won a seat in Parliament for Dunedin City in Jan 1871 and in the following year became Minister of Customs, Justice and Stamps in the Waterhouse Government. In 1874 he resigned his seat in the House to accept appointment as District Judge and resident Magistrate in Dunedin. He published in Edinburgh a book on New Zealand; Its Resources and People.
