Description: Chart of Tasman Sea and New Zealand (142E-170E, 27S-53S) showing the routes of air and naval patrols searching for the German raider Orion which had sunk the N.Z. Steamship Company steamer Turakina in the Tasman Sea. Aircraft were: flying boat Awarua from Auckland, 21st, 22nd and 25th August; flying boat Aotearoa from Auckland 21st August; DH 89s from Kerikeri. Naval patrols: HMS Archilles 21st-23rd August; Stewart Island patrol 23rd August; Wellington approaches patrol 25th August; Captn Mercer's patrol, north of Northland, 22nd & 23rd August; HMAS Perth, Sydney to mid-Tasman then Bass Strait. The patrols around Stewart Island and Wellington were carried out because signals had been detected from another German ship. Quantity: 1 manuscript map(s).
