Description: Mostly contains views of England. Contains some New Zealand views: 3 sketches showing Mount Egmont, volcanic plateau in Auckland district, and Maori pa; and engravings, one of St Paul's church, Auckland, with Mathew's home in foreground, and one of Mercury Bay. Inscriptions: Album page - centre - (On front flyleaf): The 3 New Zealand Pencil Drawings are / by Felton Mathew 1845. / See Sotheby's Catalogue 18/1/78. Item 142./ Property of H.C. Norwood. Felton Mathew was Chief Police Magistrate in Auckland. Quantity: 1 sketchbook(s). Physical Description: 56 engravings, 3 lithographs, 4 pencil and ink sketches, and 5 photographs in album 288 x 240 mm. Finding Aids: Shelflist / Inventory available.. Description: Shows a panoramic view of the Waitemata Harbour, with Mount Victoria, North Head and Rangitoto in the distance. The Auckland Domain is shown in the foreground with a group of Maori at the left, and a small tree enclosed by protective fencing in the centre. At the right is a felled tree trunk. St Paul's Cathedral is seen surrounded by groups of houses, just to the right of centre, and at the left, the view extends to the inner harbour, and shows St Patrick's? Catholic church (before the spire was built in 18--). There are a number of sailing ships in the harbour. Other Titles - New Zealand Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - Auckland New Zealand 3 July 1862 Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
