Description: A battle scene with Mount Taranaki on the left, the sea on the right. In the left foreground are two military tents inside an earth redoubt with armed soldiers. In the centre foreground is a small cottage with smoke rising from the chimney. Further military tents and soldiers with guns are in the middle distance. A large flag rises from one group of tents. The nearby pā is on the ridge in the centre background. A shell from H M S Eclipse is exploding. The view is surrounded by a border of entwined leaves and flowers. The title below is surrounded with a border, as is the word New Zealand, above. The drawing is naive. Depicts not the Battle of Kaitaki, but the storming of Katikara, with HMS Eclipse shelling Tataraimaka Pa The location is incorrectly identified by the artist.
