Description: Four maps that are part of the 1962 Oroua County district scheme, including one each of the Halcombe, Bunnythorpe, Ashhurst townships and one of the entire Oroua County. Contains two separate reference sheets that refer to the Halcombe and the Oroua County maps. The three township maps show zoning, reserves, recreation areas, water, railways, streets, and district boundaries. The Oroua County map annotations identify zoning, reserves, recreation areas, water, railways, streets, district boundaries, hospitals and community buildings, and are colour-coded to the reference sheet; other annotations name schools, halls and cemeteries. The Oroua County borders Rangitikei, Woodville, Manawatu and Kiwitea counties. All maps are diazo prints. Only the county map has watercolour annotations. Quantity: 4 map(s) bound together. Description: Drawn on a base map, the annotations show bridges, both built and proposed, on the Mangahao, Mangatainoka and the Makakahi rivers, near Pahiatua. Three of the six existing bridges are named - Mangahao, Mangatainoka and Tutaekara. Two proposed bridges are sited on Mangahao Valley Road. Written on map in pencil 'Special purposes'. Stamped on map 'General Assembly Library'. The accompanying letter (MapColl-832.45gmbj/1890/Acc.32210) was written by under Secretary of Lands and Surveys to the Chairman of the Waste Lands Committee, regarding a petition for another bridge across the Mangahao River. Description: A base map entitled Provisional map of the Hutt County has annotations depicting the authorised boundaries of the Hutt Electoral District, as authorised by the Representation Commission in 1909 which is referred to in a hand-written note. Areas included within the boundary are Pencarrow, Belmont, Rimutaka, Akatarawa and Eretonga [i.e. Heretaunga]. The area is named Hutt and includes the population total of 12753. Adjacent areas are named as Wellington suburbs, Otaki and Wairarapa, but no boundaries of these areas are included. Base map: Provisional map of the Hutt County. (Wellington, New Zealand Lands and Survey Department, [s.d.].) Base map shows numbered land blocks with acreages, timber and water reserves, forest reserves, a pastoral licence block, the Wellington and Railway Company blocks, named rivers and peaks, topographical detail.
