The proposal to build a high-rise brothel near the SkyCity Casino on Victoria Street in Auckland drew objections from local residents and businesses. Among the objectors was the Casino. Context: Cabinet papers show Key ordered Economic Development Ministry officials to stop work on plans for a national convention centre after Sky City said it might extend its existing facility. Key says he 'advised himself' to chase Sky City for a deal to build the centre in exchange for changes to gambling laws.
