Description: View looking down into Lyttelton Harbour from the Sumner Road area, taking in Lyttelton, with its few houses marked, as well as Rapaki and Cass Bays and looking towards Governor's Bay. The drawing forms a panoramic view with C-103-075-1, which includes Quail Island. Caption points out sites of other bays and early buildings in Lyttelton, including the (Canterbury Association) Agent's house (Godley's house), the house occupied by Torlesse, Cridland and Mantell, also 'Godley & Ballard's', 'Fraser and heads of departments', 'Men's hut and smithy'. Description: A single-storey house surrounded by a fence, with a shed or further house beyond it, a conical hill and other foothills of the Southern Alps in the near background. A figure with a pole over one shoulder walks along a path to the right towards the house. The house is surrounded by cultivated fields. Another building and possibly a haystack are to the right. Arowhenua is close to modern Temuka, South Canterbury, on the Opihi River. Tarahaoa is the Maori name for Mount Peel, possibly the conical hill behind the house. Mount Peel is some 40 km distant from Arowhenua and appears closer in this view than the location of modern Arowhenua would suggest. Description: A panoramic view of the plains north of Christchurch (with a small section missing). From left to right is a large stand of native bush (possibly Papanui Bush), 'Hills at Waipara' in the distance, 'Wood ... near Kaiapoi' also at some distance, sandhills, a Maori kainga with a rough palisade and two raupo whares titled Waiti... (word cropped), three further small stands of bush, the hills of Banks Peninsula, a further small stand of bush and the foothills of the Southern Alps. In the section showing the hills of Bank's Peninsula, a European man is standing, holding a flag or something similar on a tall pole. Description: A panoramic view of Akaroa Harbour with the houses of German Bay (Takamatua Bay on the east side of the Harbour, north of Akaroa township) on the right, with the name Breitmeier (i.e. Breitmeyer) written below the nearest house. A small blockhouse can be seen on the beach. Onawe Peninsula is seen from the side across the centre of the view and the western hills are in the distance Mantell was in Akaroa from 1848 to 1849. This view is dated 1849 because the style and paper match the panoramic view on the same page of the sketchbook from Port Cooper (Lyttelton) dated August 1849.
