Description: A view of one of the Maori pa on the eastern banks of the Whanganui River, possibly Ranana Pa. The river winds its way through the middle of the scene, while the pa is visible on the right, or eastern bank; there are a number of whare, surrounded by pallisades. On the western bank, a number of Maori adults and children are fishing; there is a dog in the water and a canoe out in the middle of the river, as well as one drawn up on the western bank. The hills are green beyond, with poplar trees growing near the pa site Huddleston was resident in Nelson in 1864, and is known to have travelled up the Whanganui River Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - FFC Huddleston / 1864 [in brushpoint] Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
