Description: Shows a scene of the South Canterbury plains, near Peel Forest, with a snow-covered Mount Peel in the distance. A stream winds its way into the foreground. A farmer, walking his horse and with his dog wide to the right of him, musters a herd of cattle; there would also appear to be sheep in the distance. A farmhouse with its chimney smoking stands to the left of the scene, nestled in trees and bush. A similar view of Mount Peel painted at around the same time (watercolour, titled Mt Peel, South Canterbury. A-182-083). The view is of a greater distance away, with no discernible foreground and with rain falling on the mountains.
