Description: Shows a scene in the Hollyford Valley, as night approaches. In the foreground is a shelter hut on a track, surrounded by tall trees, tree ferns and dense bush. The hut's smoking chimney indicates a fire has been lit inside. Two men stand outside the hut. A snow-topped mountain, probably part of the Darran or Humboldt ranges, rises prominently in the background. The library also holds various pencil sketches of the Hollyford in Fiordland by Hodgkins, tentatively dated between 1875 and 1880, suggesting this watercolour was made in the same period Other Titles - Hollyford Valley Inscriptions: Recto - bottom left - A shelter hut / Lower Holyford Valley / W M Hodgkins [in brushpoint] Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
