Description: Shows river and riverbed, with three birds (shags?), on branch in foreground. Mountain peaks in background. Probably copied from Hutton, F. W. Report on the geology and goldfields of Otago. Dunedin, Mills Dick & Co, 1875, p.1 A. Heaphy is not known to have visited Central Otago (although the title is in his hand and the style of the drawing is his). In addition, the Library holds an almost identical drawing by William Mathew Hodgkins (A-182-072) and this appears to be the original for the illustration to Hutton. Description: Shows view looking across the valley to snow-capped peaks. There are stands of bush in the left foreground, and along the river which runs across the picture in the middle distance.
