North Head's signal station is included The reference to 'Mrs Churton' suggests the drawing was done after the death of Rev J F Churton in 1853. Description: Shows the islands and peninsulas of Auckland Harbour looking towards Rangitoto. Library has a copy of Hochstetter's article from "Le tour du monde" at q919.31 HOCH. It is dated by the inscription "I Semestre 1865" in ink at top of first page. See also the slightly differing version in Hochstetter's 1863 German version (page 4), and 1867 English version (Page 5). These are acknowledged as being from a sketch by Mr Heaphy. Other Titles - Auckland Harbour. Extended Title - From: La terre a vol d'oiseau (unknown publisher), page 867. Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - Le havre d'Auckland. (Voy. p. 870.) - Dessin de Lancelot. Hochstetter visited New Zealand in 1858-1859. He published "Neuseeland" in 1863. His article "Voyage a la Nouvelle-Zelande" appeared in "Le tour du monde..." vol. XI, 1er. semestre 1865, pages 273-320. This image appeared on page 273, inscribed by D. Lancelot, with C. Laplante as the engraver; it acknowledges that it is drawn after M. F. de Hochstetter. In turn Hochstetter's books acknowledge an earlier sketch by Heaphy. The Drawings and Prints copy at A-109-067 is a reproduction for the later publication (a serial?), "La Terre a vol d'oiseau". Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s).
