Description: A view of Ahuriri, or the inner harbour in Napier. One small house can be seen in the middle distance. The view is possibly looking north-west, with a range of hills visible in the distance Attached to the back of the matt is a typescript that reads 'Australian artist. Lived there for some time. Did monochrome watercolours mostly around Sydney. He has work in the Turnball [sic] and in Hocken Libraries. He has done watercolours of Hobart, Mt Turnball [sic], Lake Wakatipu, Sydney Harbour and Timaru' The view is significant as the harbour appears as it did before the 1931 earthquake that raised the sea floor by 2.7 metres, with the Ahuriri Lagoon and tidal flats drained Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - The inner harbour / Napier NZ / G Hamilton Hammon 1905 [in brushpoint] Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
