Description: Looking north along the coastline towards Maunganui, with ships in the harbour, infantry and cavalry on the beach to the left, a Maori canoe and a rowboat in the foreground, the rowboat being hauled out to sea off the mudflats by sailors. Boxes and barrels are on the shore and military tents can be seen in the distance, with a redoubt on a foreland further off Copied by Hamley from a drawing of his superior officer, E. A. Description: View from across the Waikato River towards the main buildings of the Maori king's residence. The long low building on the left is the 'General's quarters', the 'King's palace' is in the centre with dark red barge boards, the 'council chambers' are futher to the right and the closest building and the flagstaff is on the far right. There are two small canoes at the landing place, along with people and horses. Description: Looking across the river towards the stockade atop a hill, a flag flying inside its perimeter fence. There is a shed, possibly a boat shed at the water's edge and a small boat with a sail is being rowed across the river. A cleared hill with tree-stumps is on the left Copied by Hamley from the drawings of his superior officer, E. A. Williams. Description: The fortification on Marsland Hill at New Plymouth with a large hospital tent in front and many Maori and Pakeha in front of it. In the foreground, groups of Maori and Pakeha, including a man performing a challenge, with an axe. The occasion appears to be festive, with many flags strung up and families present, possibly after the cessation of hostilities at New Plymouth. Based on a watercolour in Edward Arthur Williams' sketchbook, called Taranaki (E-348-131/13l). There is also a watercolour of the same subject called New Plymouth 18 June 1864 by E. A. Description: Shows Auckland Harbour with HMS Esk to the left. In the centre, with no sails, is the prison hulk Marion, with figures lining the deck. A blue naval flag hangs from one mast. In front beside the ship is a small boat with red sail. At right distance is a steamer and three sailing vessels. On top of hill at left is a signal tower, with red flag flying.
