Description: Photograph of a section of the Arthur's Pass road over the Southern Alps, with a signpost in the foreground that reads: `To Hokitika 53 Miles'; taken circa 1890s by an unidentified photographer, and published as part of the "Views and Landscapes of New Zealand" series by F Bradley & Co. Inscribed with name `E. G. Jublin , Little River' on back of print, but does not appear to be creator of collection. Original caption for this view reads: `This Pass, the highest on the line of the coach road between Christchurch and the West Coast, is 3300 feet high. The descent from the Pass through the Otira Gorge to the Teremakau River, brings under notice some of the wildest and most romantic scenery on the route'.
