Description: News item from Napier announcing an incident in Poverty Bay, four miles from Napier, involving Te Kooti and his men, and Captain Reginald Biggs who had been pursuing him for some time. The ship "Success" brought surviving settlers to Napier. This preliminary report suggests that 28 Europeans and 9 friendly Maori were killed. Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s) on galley proof.. Numbers form a key to Te Mu old mission station, Hazard's, McRae's, Graham's, Snow Temperance Hall, Maori House, Old Mill, Road to Rotomahana, Mount Tarawera. Te Wairoa was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Tarawera, 10 June 1886. Supplement to the Evening Post; date conjectured from B-033-020, tinted lithograph published in the New Zealand Herald, 21 June 1886. On verso: 2 maps of Hot Lake district.
