Description: Personal and news photographs taken and collected by J L Wilson featuring North Canterbury 1863-1918, predominantly dated 1905 to 1918. Series include: miscellaneous Wilson family photographs, including group and individual portraits (Estelle and family, Joseph Lowthian and wife, and more), Christmas at T R Leithead's home Lindean in 1917, [holidays?], croquet games, river (boating), beach, and garden scenes [Beauthorne?], pets including dogs Bruce and Nigger, Marjorie's canaries, and cat Billy Buster; and numerous street scenes of Rangiora and Kaiapoi with many taken during July 1918 snowstorm. Images of news and events cover the traffic bridge at Kaiapoi being re-decked and damage after a flood, flooding at Waverley (railway line), sheep shearing competition and equestrian parade at the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Show, Mr Donald of Rangiora show jumping on horse, North Canterbury plowing match at Cunningham Farm (Rangiora), opening of Stoke traffic bridge by William Hall-Jones, Governor Plunkett's visit to Kaiapoi (including Mayor A Pierce), roasting bullock at Queen Victoria Jubilee, and Coronation procession. Named figures include J L Wilson and his grandson Lionel, Manahi, G S Porter, Johnny McLay Captain H Oram (with golfing trophy) and Major B S Jordan (in Cairo with horse presented by Northern A & P Association).
