Description: View looking east up the Otira River towards Arthur's Pass, with the road crossing a bridge and running to the left of the river. The original for Barraud's chromolithograph of the same scene (with the addition of a Cobb & Co coach and four horses, plus a lone horseman) in New Zealand Graphic and Descriptive (London, 1877) opp. p. 40. The associated text mentions that the scene is just before the 'Zig-Zag' not long before the first of the accommodation houses on the road, where the horses were changed. See ref. no.
