Description: Shows wooden church with high roofed aisle, clerestory windows, flanked by side aisles. [West?] entrance door is under wooden spire. To the right is the wooden church hall. Both are seen behind wooden fence beyond road in foreground. At left a man on horseback rides along road towards left distance. A man and woman with parasol stand in left foregrround, and a woman and child stand outside the church fence on the opposite side of the road. See earlier correspondence about the disposal of this painting. AT 10/14, 22 December 1994. Inscription below painting (valid 1990s?): A C. Aubrey ink & watercolour study of the first St Matthew's Church and hall situated in the church acre, corner of Church and Dixon Streets, Masterton, at the turn of the 20th century. The church was demolished about 1914, but the hall was shifted to the present site, & is used by youth groups, behind the present parish hall, Church Street, Masterton.
