Description: Shows a view of a two-storey cottage. A small lean-to can be seen at the back, with a tree behind it. Description: Shows a small dwelling in what would appear to be a New Zealand setting, probably South Canterbury. The timber board building, with a flat sloping roof, has a smoking chimney, suggesting it is lived in; but although it has a door, no windows can be seen on the two sides visible. A fence runs in front of the building,and trees, including willow, stand behind it. The Southern Alps can be seen in the distance. Lenticular clouds can be seen in the sky. Description: Shows a view of 'St Leonard's' in Seafield, Canterbury, one of the Alington homes. A single-storey cottage with a front verandah stands amidst bush and trees, including pine, with a cottage-style garden at the front of the house. It is likely that the verso inscription is in the hand of Charlotte Mabel Alington, sister of J S A (John Sydney Alington) and L W (Wynford) Alington, one of whom has been cited as the artist Inscriptions: Verso - centre - 'St Leonards' Seafield A year or so after we had settled in our new home. Sketch by J S A or L W A, one of the Alington brothers for a cousin in ChCh. The verandah has been taken away. Quantity: 1 watercolour(s).
