Description: 2 sketches at back of volume showing cows and horses - preliminary sketches for Strutt's well-known Australian bush-fire painting "Black Thursday" Largely notes of expenditure in New Zealand. Contains only 2 sketches, Other Titles - Black Thursday [preliminary sketches]; 1856 New Zealand [cover title]; 1855 New Zealand notes expenditure &c &c [end-paper title] Quantity: 1 sketchbook(s) MS notes in notebook, with pencil drawings, housed with sketchbook in half blue morocco & linen case. Physical Description: 2 pencil drawings & holograph notes in ink & pencil, in note-book, embossed morocco binding, page size 83 x 124 mm Provenance: Purchased by Alexander Turnbull in May 1913 from Sydney dealers Angus and Robertson. They had purchased this diary (and the sketchbook at E-441) along with the albums at E-452-f and E-453-f from the artist in London.
