Description: Shows head and shoulders portraits of five Maori. All but one are in profile. At bottom left, the wife of Tawiti has an infant folded inside her cloak. The two details of the mouths of Ekara and Tawiti's wife, show moko markings. The caption to this work is numbered and labelled to correspond with the French version published as Plate 70 in Dumont D'Urville's "Voyage de la corvette l'Astrolabe ... " (Paris 1833), but the arrangement on the page differs slightly. English title taken from the assigned title in Ellis' "Early prints of New Zealand" (Christchurch, 1978). The Hocken Library, Dunedin, holds a copy of the German-language edition of Dumont d'Urville's Voyage de la Corvette l'Astrolabe, from which this print comes Other Titles - 1,2.
