Description: View from the lower slopes of the Western Hutt hills, looking along a road across part of Lower Hutt and Petone towards Wellington Harbour, with Somes Island and Wellington Heads visible. several houses and gardens on the flat land at the bottom of the hill and a small stream runs away to the left. Description: Photographs taken in New Zealand, except several of yachts in the Solent, England which were taken by West & Son (Gosport, England). Most of the New Zealand scenes were photographed by Arthur Thomas Bothamley. A number of images show Pukearuhe and the Pukearuhe Redoubt, and include two views of a large wooden and thatched roofed house near the Redoubt. It was single-storeyed, with a bay window, and was probably the house occupied by Marion Ellis Rowan and her husband (1873-1877) while the 43rd Regiment was stationed at Pukearuhe, near the Redoubt. Several views of the Marlborough Sounds show a group, including Gerald Fitzgerald (son of James Edward Fitzgerald), alongside several Rob Roy canoes, and one with a canoe named `Geroit Mare'. Description: Extensive view of an empty field, a cottage on the left, a bare tree in the centre, and a low hill to the left. The station referred to in the title note is probably modern Waterloo Station in central Lower Hutt. The snow-topped Tararua Range is in the background Note on back of sketch: the cottage is Cudby's, by which is the present railway station gate John Francis Cudby lived in the Hutt Valley for 77 years until his death aged 90 in 1920. His wife was Ruth, nee Nichol Other Titles - Lower Hutt, Wellington, N Z July 1869. The cottage is Cudby's by which is the present railway station gate. Description: A cluster of small wooden buildings surrounded by fences, trees and a garden. A larger house is visible behind trees to the left. The bank building is shown as a single room, with barred windows, a gable roof, a lean-to at the back. There is a separate shed on high piles some distance behind Compare watercolour by A. T. Bothamley at A-032-020, with similar title and the same date. The bank house was used as a residence by bank employees and was in the Waihopai Valley, by the Waihopai River. Attributed to Bothamley on stylistic grounds, paper matching his other view of the same building and handwriting of inscription on reverse matching the inscriptions on his other work.
