Description: Slides of images collected by Judith Binney relating to her research on Rua Kenana Hepetipa. Some photographs taken in 1981. Others taken circa 1981. Photographer unidentified, possibly Binney. Six images show a red flag labelled with the words 'Rua Tupua'. Four show wooden carvings representing Tangata Iti and Paikea (with tuku tuku panels and photographs alongside) inside the house Toi kai rakau at Waikirikiri marae in Ruatoki. Further images comprise one of a wooden carved statue in Rotora showing a figure holding a lizard, and one looking towards a small house in a rural area. Binney has identified this last image as 'Rua. Whare Karakia. Te Teko'. Nearly all images are copies of photographs from what Binney has described as the "Mrs Z Craig" collection. They chiefly show women and girls from Ruatahuna. One is dated 1895. Some are indentified. Those named comprise: Mareta and Rehua Kokau (in a photograph by Elsdon Best), and [Muhureta?]. One image of a shipping container, in a car parking space, with signs on it advertising that it is for sale or lease. Binney describes it as "Urewera Container". Three images show the interior of a church, possibly the Samuel Marsden Memorial Church at Matauri Bay, Northland region. Description: Colour prints taken by an unidentified photographer during the first Urerwera claimants' hearing for the Waitangi Tribunal at Tataiahape Marae, Te Waimana, in November 2003. The prints were sent to Binney by lawyer David Ambler of barristers and solicitors East Brewster. (Note: the Library does not hold the negatives of these images). lmages show: - exterior of Takutai o te Rangi meeting house. - a ceremony, probably a powhiri in the grounds of the marae. - a group portrait including lawyer David Ambler, and possibly Tama Nikora. - scenes inside the marquee where the hearing was held. - hail on the road at Taneatua after a storm.
