Description: Album showing housing conditions in Newton Gully, Ponsonby and Freeman's Bay, compiled by H L McNaughton, headmaster of Grey Lynn School in Surrey Crescent, as part of an investigation undertaken in the late 1930s into the living conditions of children attending his school. The album also contains H L Mc Naughton's report to the Department of Health. Description: Small book of photographs of early Auckland and some Maori studies. Two of the photographers are John Kinder and Hartley Webster but there may be others unidentified. Arrangement: Negatives housed at: 1/4-015157 to 015172 and 1/2-018462 to 018463 Processing information: It is believed that the album was dismantled after deposit. The two original prints mounted on one small page in this collection may be from the album. Knowledge of the other images comes from the reference to Bennett's deposit on the back of the file prints. The album has been taken apart and only two original prints are still locatable.

Description: Album compiled in the late 1850s and early 1860s by James Coutts Crawford (1817-1889). The photographs fall into distinct groups, interspersed through the album, as follows: Portraits of the Dundas and Moreton families, and scenes in Anverara, Dalmally, Overton and other localities in Scotland, as well as views of Barton Court, Tortworth Court (Gloucestershire) and Kintbury (Berkshire) in England. These photographs were probably taken during Crawford's residence in England during the 1850s. Photographs of the Crawford, Clifford, Weld and Levin families in Wellington, and views around Molesworth, Mulgrave and Hobson Streets, taken in the late 1850s and early 1860s. The photographer is unknown, but possibly Crawford himself. Views of Wellington from the Terrace, taken in 1858 by the Reverend Arthur Stock (1823-1901).
