Description: Dressing room interior, looking through to the adjoining bathroom. A chest of drawers and a portrait of Queen Victoria are visible. Photographed circa 1915, by Samuel Heath Head, probably in Christchurch. "The dressing room contrasts with the bedroom as it is relatively utilitarian with its tongue and groove walls and blinds. All the clothing and paraphernalia on view appear to be masculine. Above the bathroom door Queen Victoria still reigns." (Information from caption used in "Darling, I'm home!" display). Exhibited in 'Darling, I'm Home!' exhibition at the National Library of New Zealand, 1 June - 5 July 1999. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s). Description: Photograph of a sitting room interior in a Christchurch house photographed by Samuel Heath Head about 1908 The room may be older, but several items of furniture such as the oak "Morris" chair on the left, the fire surround, fire screen frame, and fender on the right, are all in styles that began to become general in New Zealand between 1905 and 1910. The style of the wallpaper and the narrow wallpaper frieze suggest that the photograph may have been taken later, say between 1915 and 1920 Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s). Description: Bedroom interior, circa 1915, photographed by Samuel Heath Head, probably in Christchurch. "The white bedding acts as an effective contrast to the highly patterned walls, curtains and carpet of this bedroom. The carved crest on the wooden bed-end reads "Salus in fide" (Safety in faith). The ottoman at the end of the bed was a quite common feature and acted as a place to rest during the day. The draped lightshades were popular at this time. The clock on the chest of drawers, can be seen through the door of the bedroom, in the adjoining dressing room." (Information from caption used in "Darling, I'm home!" display).
