Description: Farmland and house of Charles Henry West in the Huiakama district, east Stratford. Photograph taken by James McAllister, circa 1905. Exhibited in 'Darling, I'm Home!' exhibition at the National Library of New Zealand, 1 June - 5 July 1999. "Charles West was the third settler in the Huiakama district, arriving about 1890, and the first chairman of the Dairy Company. He was on the School committee and a Justice of the Peace. The house is a typical "L" shaped single gabled cottage that has been extended with a lean-to at the back. The roof is corrugated iron, with the verandah roof painted red and white.
