Description: The ship `Prince of Wales' in Picton Harbour, circa 1910. Photographer unidentified. Note on back of file print reads "Freezing ship: `P of W' lying in Picton Harbour. This ship was built by the Hudson Bay Co in 1857; & was very strongly constructed for the ice - she had a 9' of solid oak in the bows, had twin screw compound engines & steamed 4.5-5.5 knots. She was bought to NZ by Messrs Nelson Bros and used up and down the coast as a depot freezing ship. Had a very comfortable accomodation. [Was] a hulk in Wellington's harbour."
