Description: Group portait the Canterbury College rugby team which played Otago University in 1888 the names being - P J Cocks, West, C W Garrard, C Craddock, T R Cresswell, J M Marshall, H M Hutton, J P Grossmann, Bourke, T W Beare, H F von Haast (captain), W F Ward, H T J Thacker, R P Clarkson, F G Gibbs, D Jack; and the same team in 1889 the additional names being - T H G Lloyd and P Marshall with W Ward as the captain (taken by C H Manning). Quantity: 3 b&w original photographic print(s). Provenance: The portrait of Von Haast was donated by Mrs H J von Haast in 1953 but the details of the deposit of the other two prints are not known.

Description: Slip inside front cover reads "This album was given by Sir Julius von Haast to Lady von Haast on 21st November 1868. The scenes in it are of Mt. Cook; the Otira; J.D. Enys at his station, Castle Hill; Sir Julius & Lady von Haast & H.F. von Haast in their garden at Gluckauf, Avonside, Christchurch; Rakuia [i.e. Rakaia]; Sumner with Haast in front of Cave Rock; Hokitika; Christchurch scenes". Two photographs on page 45 have hand-written captions by Julius von Haast's son H.F. von Haast. One is of St. Mary's Church (Heathcote), and the other shows the von Haast family at their home at 62 River Road, Avonside, 1868. This inscription reads "Mr. B.W. Patterson, the Oamaru Woosted & Woollen Mills Ltd. sent me this photograph, labelled "Dr. von Haast & family, 62 River Road, Avonside, 1868, & wrote that it was 'a photo taken by my grandfather of your father's old house in Chch.' Description: Inscription inside front cover reads "Seiner Wolgeboren Dr. Julius von Haast, F.R.S., C.M.G. etc. dem Enforscher der Neuseelandischen Alpen und Entdecker ihrer Gletscher widmet diese alpinen Bilder ergebenst der Autor", signed Dr R V Lendenfeld Album showing the first ascent of the Hochstetter Domes in March 1883, including a hand-drawn map, ink drawings, photographs and a water colour painting, all created by Robert J von Lendenfeld, presented to Julius von Haast, with captions and inscription in German. The first page shows 9 ink drawings showing the ascent of the Hochstetter Dome in March 1883, surrounding a photograph of Anna and Robert von Lendenfeld. The ascent was made by Robert Lendenfeld, his wife Anna, and New Zealander Harry Dew. Page 15 is a water colour painting entitled "Die Haast-Spitze 3017 m. vom Theodolithenstandpunkte am Lindagrat", signed R v L. Other views show the Tasman Glacier, Mount Cook (Aoraki), the Hochstetter Glacier, Mount Jervois, the Haast Peak and the Linda Glacier. Description: Two pages from the second Von Haast album (PA1-f-081) containing 6 photographs of a mountaineering trip to Mount Cook and the Hochstetter and Tasman Glaciers, a newspaper engraving of Thomas Carlyle, a photograph of two men outside a mountain hut, and a photograph of a painting of a campsite at the foot of mountains. Also a mounted photograph from "The Camera in the Coral Islands" series by Burton Brothers, Dunedin. It shows a woman holding a paddle sitting on the side of a small outrigger canoe on a beach.
