Description: Account of voyage from Gravesend to Port Chalmers on the vessel `Margaret Galbraith'. Hilliker was travelling in the single men's compartment and his brief daily entries record the ship's progress, vessels sighted, weather and events on board. He arrived at Port Chalmers on 9 Jan and took the steamer to Oamaru, his final destination, arriving on 20 Jan 1875. Description: Reminiscences written in 1910 of Mieville's life in New Zealand, mainly on Glenham Station in the Mataura Valley, Southland, and in Dunedin; transcribed and indexed by Marsha Donaldson. Includes shipboard accounts of the voyage to Port Chalmers on the 'Dominion' in 1851 with the Richardson family, a voyage home to England via Melbourne on the 'Thomas and Henry', and 'Royal Charter' in 1857, and the return voyage to Port Chalmers in 1858 on 'Agra'. He includes some of his wife's diary entries in his reminiscences. His first year in New Zealand was spent at Otepopo on the sheep station owned by Charles Suisted. He mentions shipboard events including the collision with an American whaler on 24 Dec 1858, fellow passengers, and his life in Auckland where he lived with the Buddle family at Onehunga. Description: The diary describes the latter part of Jane Olding's voyage to New Zealand on the `Aorangi' and gives her first impressions of life in the Kuripapango district. At the back of the diary are several pages of newspaper clippings. Also included is a transcript of the diary by Eliza Fielder in 1886? and Marsha Donaldson in 1989.
