Description: Sheet 2 of Aerial plan 791 is of the Ruapekapeka Pa in the Far North District. The drawings are believed to be a study of an archaeolgical site in use in 1846. Contour lines include height in feet. An inset locality map, situated bottom right of the main map, shows the location of the Pa in relation to named roads, some streams and the railway line. Reference notes refer to the Geodetic Grid - 1949, and Photography - survey 3028, date 6.2.68, negative scale 1:2900 (approx.). Latitude and longitude coordinates are included. Inset: The aerial plan includes a locality diagram with a scale of 1 inch to a mile, situated bottom right, below the main plan. Note on catalogue card states that Ruapekepeka Pa was Kawhiti's fortress taken by the British in 1846. Aerial plans published by Dept. of Lands and Survey, Photogrammetric Branch. Quantity: 1 map(s). Description: Drawn on a published map, annotations show the northern trip from Auckland, and through Helensville, Waiwera, Rodney, Otamatea, Kaikohe, Kaitaia to north to Hukatere, then south to Mangonui, Keri Keri, KawaKawa, Whangarei, Waipu, Mangawai Orewa and Takapuna. Some small towns are circled. Includes manuscript annnotation at bottom of map in ink pen 'Write 10/#11/16' about sand and Kaitaia, and coloured pencil annotations such as 'sandstones', 'warbridge', 'roads', 'chalk', 'Hongi'. Base map: 'The winterless north (North Auckland, New Zealand)' (Auckland; The North Auckland Executive and Development Board, 1916). Description: Hand drawn topographic map as at the time of Edward Markham's voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1833. Covers the area from the Hokianga Harbour to Whangape Harbour, across to Cape Brett, Bay of Islands and southwards to the Waikare River. Includes settlements, harbours, rivers, falls, points and bays, the printed names of which are cut out letters and words glued adjacent to their respective locations. An inset is entitled 'Location Map' which covers the area from the Firth Of Thames northwards and includes a hashed area of the main map, without any names or topographical details. Untitled base map has G.H. Brown, delt. as the signature printed bottom left of the map. No publishing information found. Map believed to be created for publishing in a book. Includes pencilled numbers in bottom margin, considered to be for reduction in size. Title and date supplied by cataloguer from the original cataloguing card. Quantity: 1 map(s).
