Description: The roof and fence of a house in the left foreground, a road crossing the picture plane, clusters of houses, a small church with steeple. A flat-topped hill in the middle distance is topped with a redoubt and there are higher hills in the distance. The scene is reminiscent of Wanganui, although the topography is not quite right. Description: Steep partially-cleared hills behind a row of single-storied houses, three larger, three very small. A large fenced vegetable growing area in front, with a path winding through the centre. The scene could be in the Hutt Valley or Wellington, but bears a strong resemblance to Richard Taylor's ink & wash drawing titled 'Wanganui Hospital & Mr Nixon's house, Nov. 27 1857' (E-296-q-146-3) A view of Wellington Harbour is on the verso of this page.
