Description: Preparatory earthmoving work for a hydroelectric scheme at Lake Hawea, January 1955. Photographer unidentified. Note on back of file print reads "Lake Hawea Storage Scheme. Hydro-electric works in the South Island. Lake Hawea is to have its level raised to provide extra storage for the huge station at Roxburgh. Control gates are to be installed, and in this picture work preparatory to the installation of the gates is shown."
