Whangarei The numbers 501-550 were allocated to the Public Works Department for their locomotives. The Railways Department agreed not to use these numbers. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 67.) This engine was originally 'L' Class, NZR 219.
